"Rizal Through the Eyes of Artists" from 29 July - 12 August 2016

August 6, 2016

The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Berlin and Transwing Art Gallery are pleased to announce the opening of "Rizal Through the Eyes of Artists" exhibit at the Sentro Rizal-Philippine Embassy Berlin in Germany.

Philippine Ambassador to Germany H.E. Melita Sta. Maria-Thomeczek, Mr. Klaus W. Hartung, owner and president of Transwing® Art Gallery, and Arnel David Garcia, an artist friend of the Gallery, led the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the exhibit on July 28.

As “a continuing celebration of Jose Rizal’s 155th birth anniversary” on June 19, the two-week exhibit at the Embassy showcases the artworks of Ronna Manansala, Rene Robles, and Ferdinand Ruiz that create an artistic narrative of the Philippine National Hero’s patriotism and martyrdom.

The exhibit also reminds Filipinos and Germans that Rizal’s stay in Germany from February 1886 to May 1887 is considered the anchor of Philippine-German relations today. Rizal visited his German friends, conducted research, participated in academic circles, and travelled through German cities and countrysides to observe its lifestyles. His first novel “Noli me Tangere” was published in Berlin in 1887.

Transwing® Art Gallery features the works of the renowned Pampanga sculptor Arnel David Garcia. His sculptures and three-dimensional murals are inspired by the tragedies, sorrow, and search for hope that transpired after the catastrophic Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991.

“Rizal Through the Eyes of Artists” is open to the public from 29 July to 12 August 2016 (Mondays to Fridays, 9 AM-4 PM) at the Sentro Rizal-Philippine Embassy Berlin, Haus Cumberland, Second Floor, Kurfürstendamm 194, 10707 Berlin, Germany.
